Bali Day 14

I slept in till 730 today and it was amazing! Today is Npeyi Day. No internet and no tv (not that I’ve used one since I’ve been here). I started with breakfast, fried eggs with watermelon juice and toast. It was so hot by 830 that I jumped in the pool and hung poolside for some time. I went above my room and meditated on my situation and wrote another letter about it. The minute I put the pen down, I looked over and there was a feather sticking right out of the ground. Anyone who is in the know, understands that feathers represents angels, when one crosses your path, know they are with you. That was what I needed to see in that very moment. It was perfect.

When a feather crosses your path, know that the angels are with you

I then decided it was time to play catch up with my posts. So I started doing that and then I would take pool breaks in between because it was so hot. By the time noon came around I was hungry so I made myself some noodles and toast, I peeled a cucumber and ate a banana. I was full and happy. I took everything up to the restaurant and washed everything there. I jumped in the pool and then went back to writing.

As I was sitting there, a young man, Dicky, came up and we started talking. He lives here in Bali. His club that he worked at in Denpasar just closed so he is just passing through with a friend. He was living in Jakarta and couldn’t find work because the big companies there don’t hire their own people. The big companies are owned by Chinese and they don’t use people that live in the city. It is so sad. He left because he couldn’t find work and he got into drugs there. So he came here and he has been clean ever since and had a job. His parents live here, and he helps them with their business. Which is cooking, selling food. It seems most families do that as a team. I love that. He is a drummer and loves Wu-Tang and Rancid and many more bands. He is currently working on his first hip hop project, he is in the middle of writing lyrics. He just finished university for tourism and is working on getting his passport so he can go to America and work on a cruise ship in Miami. He is very excited about it. I am super stoked for him too. I told him, don’t spend your money there…save it and bring it home. You can build your restaurant or hotel easily. That’s what he wants to do, and he wants to help his friends out by giving them all jobs in Jakarta. He is also learning how to surf. Super nice, cool cat.

We talked for like an hour and next thing you know it’s 4pm. Dinner time. The kitchen closes at 5 today and this meal was on the house, although I didn’t know it. I ordered the chicken cordon blu. I was slightly skeptical, but I didn’t need to be. It was so good.

I went to go shower and wash my hair; I couldn’t run my fingers through it anymore. The water pressure is so horrible there was no way it was gonna do the trick. I through in some shampoo and said ok all done. Not even gonna bother with conditioner at this time. I sat back down in front of the computer and continued on. I had forgotten that it was a new moon, and no light pollution so when it out dark I wanted to go above my room on the terrace and look at the stars. I invited the London Ladies too.

I went up there and brought my camera. It was so beautiful. Saw some things shoot across the sky and remembered how to take night shots. The only problem is that I need a powerful light to get focus on something. But I did what I could, and I was just so excited to figure it out again.

I stopped taking pictures so I could just enjoy what was before me. I even saw a lot of fireflies which I rarely see anymore in the US. It is truly a fairyland here. Nothing but amazing. Everything is beautiful and right where it’s supposed to be, including me. To see everything with my own eyes, absolutely stunning. No words could truly describe anything I feel or see and for that I am truly blessed.

As I was getting up to go back downstairs, I coughed loudly and a bat was in the tree across from me and I must’ve scared it and it made some noises and flew away. It startled me too. My heart was pounding but then I started laughing and made my way to my room and went to sleepies.

Bali Day 12

I was feeling so much better. I didn’t have as many cramps but I was bloated. I took some Acidil and left it alone. I was still kinda nervous about leaving. I ate some toast and avocado and more fruit.

I hung out mostly in the pool and in the common area. It was around 1pm when I started to get real hungry and again I wasn’t ready to leave yet so I tried to order off of gojek food, basically like uber eats. I was able to order food from the first night I was here, Nonii’s. I was happy about that. I may have waited up to an hour or so which I was fine because it didn’t require me to leave.

As it arrives I get so excited and open it up straight away. Delicious chicken satay and a salad. I don’t know why but I feel like the salads here are so much better then the US. I rarely eat salads in the US but on occasion I will. I found myself eating more salads here for sure. Maybe it has to do with the temperature and no pesticides.

As I enjoy my delicious meal, a new face pops in. His name is Arik and he is from Hawaii. He is also on his first big solo trip, so we immediately hit it off. We made plans for dinner and went our separate ways. I continued with the pool and the common area all day.

7pm came around we decided to walk to a café that Phillip had told us about. It was quite the walk but it’s so much better to walk with someone at night. Up until this point the only place I’ve walked around at night was in Ubud, at the Gio Vanda house. I felt comfortable walking around by myself there. Not so much anywhere else I’ve landed thus far, at night. I did go to Kuta for dinner but I had a gojek drop me off where I was meeting my friend. Then we walked together back to the main road.

The café we were going to closed about 10 mins prior so we kept walking. The street was so dark, thanks mom…for my flashlight (that thing has come in handy everywhere I’ve stayed so far. I am really appreciative for it). We were able to see the dogs lying on the street so we could avoid them just in case. Then we had to walk through a dirt road so we were able to see all the puddles. We finally make it back to the main street and find an Italian restaurant that was open. It was the first spot. We decided to do it. We sat down outside and relaxed.

My stomach had been doing great all day, I was stoked. I ordered a salad because it sounded so good again, after all it had been so hot all day it seemed so refreshing especially paired with watermelon juice. He ordered a pasta dish that he said was really good.

This was taken on our way back from dinner. Neverland, club that was closed due to covid-19. So many awesome graffiti artists around Bali. This just happened to be all in the same place.

We got up to leave and not even a minute after we began our walk back it started pouring. Not really sure how far away we were but we passed the grocery store that I had gone to the other day. Crossing the streets were challenging on the main roads. It was like frogger trying to cross, but we made it unscathed. By the time we got back everything I was wearing was soaked. We stayed up for about 30 mins and went our separate ways once again; and to bed I went.

Bali Day 11

I woke up around 630am, with some real bad stomach pain. So much so that I stayed in bed all day. I was in and out of sleep and up and down to the bathroom every other 10-20 mins. I drank water, ate some toast, ate an avocado as that has more potassium then a banana.

With the villas being on top of one another and the open bathrooms surrounded by cement I was concerned that everyone could hear me. Then I realized that this happens to many people so why should I care, but when you don’t feel awesome, you at least want to feel comfortable; and that I was not.

I was out in the common area and these 2 girls from Russia come in to stay, I was able to be social for a bit here and there. But there were no comfortable places to really sit so I eventually went back to my room.

I don’t think I even got in the pool, that’s how uncomfortable I was. I went no where and ate only the fruits and toast all day. I went to bed around 7pm.

I share this with you because this is a reality that many people go through when visiting other countries. Not everything is perfect everyday while on holiday.

Bali Day 10

Today I woke up at 630am which was exciting that I got to sleep in, granted I went to bed at 1230am. Nonetheless, I was stoked. I was relaxing by the pool when my friend Phillip came rolling out and said that he and Michael were going to La Brisa, which is a beach club in town, around 1ish. He then invited me along for the ride, in which I said absolutely.

I had plenty of time dilly dally and realized I needed to shower and eat before we left. So I showered and went to the corner and ordered take away from this little waurung that was suggested by Phillip. The ladies were quite busy as they had several take away orders and plenty of taken seats. I sat there watching them after I ordered mine and patiently waited. It was fascinating watching these two ladies work. Everything they needed was right in front of them. They didn’t have all the fancy kitchen stuff that we have in the US and it works, efficiently for them. I loved it. They make one thing over and over until it runs out and it becomes something else. Today it was steamed rice and chicken, yumm. I paid 12k which is like, I don’t even think it’s a US dollar, and I was on my way.

Trekking back to Umah Bamboo

I got back to the bamboo villas and opened it up, I was hungry and didn’t really feel like paying beach prices for my food. It’s all wrapped in paper and stapled closed at the top. I open it up and I see the chicken and not the rice. I got a plate and noticed the chicken was scooped up on a leaf and under the leaf was the rice. I was so excited. I didn’t mix it together yet and took a huge bite of the shredded chicken and vegetables. WHOA…that shit was hot! I am unclear as to why I did not spit it out, knowing how my body reacts to spicy foods. I took one more small bite on the other side hoping it wasn’t spicy and it was. So bummed and nervous now (lol), I gave the chicken to Phillip who was on his laptop next to me. I finished the rice and had some fruit and went straight to the bathroom. Popped some immodium and packed my bag for La Brisa.

We left around 1pm and apparently told Michael we would be there way sooner than we were. When we pulled up security had me get off the motor bike so he could check in the seat and then told us to go park. When we got to the front gate to go in, they checked our bags and asked if we had reservations. We told them we were meeting some people and went on our way. Impressive place.

We found Michael on the beach with bean bags and little tables. The place was like nothing I had ever seen or been to before. It was incredible, probably much like spring break places. Michael immediately said something about timing. Phillip laughed and said, I’m like a girl relax, what else are you gonna do here. I laughed and Michael was smiling. Michael is from Poland, he says to me it’s a sign of disrespect if you are late in my country.

We all kick back and relax, drinking coconuts and Phillip a beer. The sand was so dark, it was black but in the sun it was like black glitter. It was beautiful. Natures glitter as someone once said…I loved that so much because after seeing this…I can absolutely agree. I kept digging my feet in and pulling them out covered in natures glitter and it was pretty. My pictures don’t do it justice but in person, so pretty.

Michael ends up leaving and Phillip is waiting for his lady friend to meet us there. I decide to go into the water, after all it was hot and so was the sand. I walked down to the water, it was so beautiful, the water, the sand, everything. I saw a bunch of seaglass I wanted to pick it up and give it to my sister but not trying to pack in a bunch of stuff, especially not knowing anything at this time. I found a piece of coral which I did pick up and that was it. I meandered out onto the sandbar and played in the waves while standing. I felt the current was really strong, so I didn’t want to actually swim. But the water was so nice. I went back up and sat down on my beanbag and Phillip went to go meet his lady friend down the beach and walk back here. I ordered another coconut and started marco polo’ing everyone.

Phillip and friend came back and they were going to check out another view for a bit. I stayed on the beach till the rain clouds rolled in. Packed up my stuff and went upstairs to the rest of the club and found them. We all found a nice little spot and claimed it. As I sat there looking around I couldn’t help but admire everyone’s beauty. Everyone here was beautiful. From babies to grandparents, beauty.

I jumped in the pool nearest me and scoped the scene. Just taking it all in. The water in the pool was actually chilly, but totally refreshing. I got out dried off and decided to leave these two little love birds and go something to eat before I got hangry.

I walked out and down the road aways and found a corner spot, I forgot the name but I think it was called Canggu Garden. It just started to rain and there was a bench like seat that looked really comfy and sat there. I ordered immediately the avocado toast, so good; and a fresh juice. It started down pouring now and the owner kept asking if I was getting wet because of the roof. I said nope it’s perfect. I finished my meal and was still quite hungry. I even waited 10 minutes, for the rain to stop. The owner said it’ll stop in an hour. So I decided to order another meal. Something about chicken. It came out and it was a sandwich, I had no idea, with French fries. I did not eat the ff but the sandwich was really good. I ate everything. And when I was done, the rain stopped.

I packed up my belongings and went on my way. I was going to walk to the grocery store and then hitch a ride home but I saw this cute guy on his bike and he offered me a ride for what sounded like 15k. So I said sure. As we rode to the store he asked me how old I was, I signed to him 4 0. He freaked out, turned around and was like what??? I started laughing so I asked him how old he was and his reply, I thought you were 23, I am 20. As we both were laughing we made it to the store. It was quite busy in there so it took me about 10 mins to get in and out. I bought some avocados and fruit. When I came out we looked at each other and laughed again. We made it back to my place and I went to give him 15k and he said no 50k. Big difference to misunderstand. I’m glad I had it on me. So I handed it over and said thank you, with a big smile and he took off.

When I got inside, the couple from Czech Republic were still up and having dinner. About 15 mins later Phillip and his lady friend came rolling in. Straight to the room they went. It had been quite the long day so I turned in as well.

Bali Day 9

I woke up and rolled out of bed. I was planning on hanging out till noon at the hotel before check out but I ended up getting a bug, as in lets go. I emailed my new place of stay in Canggu and asked if I can check in sooner. They said absolutely.

I realized my back was out of alignment and was hurting, you know the one, lower back stiff can’t bend. Yep that one. I said to self nope, we are not babying you we are going to stretch and keep moving. The reason it was hurting is a couple of different reasons. 1. due to eating leftovers, causing an undesirable outcome. 2. from the spiritual aspect of no security. I am in a beautiful place and moving one day at a time and living in the complete unknown. So my body is reacting. My body loves to be stable, however we are in times where stability is only in your faith.

I jump in the pool to help my body stretch out, got out and went for my last breakfast there. It was a breakfast buffet of deliciousness. Of course it doesn’t come near the Wavi Treehouse but I can not compare that place with anything.

I get back to the room and hang out for a while, making sure everything is packed, I talk to my dad for some time and decide it’s time. I contact Gojek and make my way out.

The drive to Canggu was a lot shorter than I anticipated and the driver said because no one is here. I disagreed as I saw many motor bikes on the streets. We laughed. We found the address and my driver was unable to make it down the tiny road. So we grabbed my belongings and walked the rest of the way.

The Umah Bamboo Canggu is tucked away on this little property with 9 little huts. Equipped with a bed on the bamboo floor, 1 cabinet, and the bathroom. Everything is so low to the ground here and with my back feeling the way it does…geez. Cute villa, smells like bamboo because the entire place is made from bamboo.

I put all my stuff away and saw 2 guys at the kitchen and 2 girls at the pool. The girls spoke another language and the guys both spoke English. Grateful I was able to communicate with someone. lol. We introduced one another and talked about our current situation. Everyone who is a foreigner is in the same boat. It feels so good that there is quite a lot of us.

I got here around 930am. by the time I finished laundry and jumped in the pool it was 11. I remember looking at my phone and being like holy cow its so early still. So i needed a game plan. I need to get out and explore. But I need a shower first. By the time I came out and was getting ready to go, everyone was gone except a couple from the Czech Republic. They were so nice and helped me figure out how to get a gojek here, because the address is quirky on the the app.

I finally get one to find me with the help from my new friends and I was off to the beach, Batu Bolong. The trip was 8rph, not bad for what would have been a 45 min walk amd getting lost, lol. I left probably around 1pm.

I walk straight to the beach. There is several beach bars and hundreds of surfers. I just sat down on the sand and watched for sometime. As I sat there I started to get hungry so I got up and brushed myself off and made my way down the street reading everyone’s menu. I remembered to contact dude from Ubud, who said he would be in Canggu. Dude’s name is Jason. So I hit him up and we decided to meet for sunset on the beach, happy hour at 530ish.

I walked around till then looking for some grub. I found this little spot called Nonii’s. I sat there and enjoyed my food with my coconut. Totally need to stay hydrated around here, you sweat everything out. I can’t even imagine July and August, peak season. If I had to take a guess I would say it’s probably like Texas.

It was about 515pm by the time I was done which was perfect timing. Headed back to the beach and waited for my friend on the beach. He arrived and we went to the Wave, bar\restaurant and had a magnificent view of the surfers and sunset. His friend V came to meet us. She is from Australia originally but has traveled and worked in many other countries since. Now residing in Bali she teaches singing lessons via online.

We hung out there for a couple of cocktails and made our way to the Old Man. Another bar that gets wild after 11pm. Mind you it’s friday here. I was ready to go home and knock out as I haven’t been out this late in so long and have been out literally all day. They looked at me and said, I know you are tired but I think you should come out. Being that I’m in for new experiences, I said yes. I have no reason whatsoever to go home besides go to sleep. I can sleep tomorrow!

Cold Coconut Water

We hopped on the motor bikes and went to the Faraway bar, not sure where it is but I was there. Live music and lots of fun people. I just had water and coconuts. The coconuts were cold which I was stoked about. I have not, since I’ve been here had a cold coconut! So refreshing. This English guy comes up to me and asks me why American women wear sunglasses at night on their head. I laughed and replied back stating that I have been out all day, since 1 this afternoon. And by that time it was 1030pm.

Jason gave me a ride back to the villas around 1130pm. So grateful as I was so tired.
