Bali Day 25

I got up today to watch the sunrise around 6am. Again waking up at 5 but didn’t feel like getting out of bed quite yet. So I got up at 6 and went outside to see the sunrise. It was quiet, no one on the property was awake yet and I wandered to the back of the property to see it better. It was beautifully radiant.

Bingo

When the sun did pop up, Made came out to take the offering to the temple and Bingo tagged along until he saw me sitting there.

It was already warm out so I decided to jump in the pool to wake up a bit more. Made asked to clean my room and while I was in the pool so I said sure. She really didn’t have to but sure why not. While she was doing her thing I saw a cat run into my room I paid no mind as Made was doing her thing and I, in the pool.

I was in and out of the pool reading and sunning. Ken came out and we started to chat it up for a while. We decided we would go for a ride and find this juice place he had been talking about and then find some lunch.

I got out of the pool and went in to change to go for lunch. I was about to walk out of my room and I felt a presence. I looked to the left and next to the bed in my little night stand there the cat was hiding. She had been in there for some time, as Made closed the door and I was kicking it poolside. The kitty watched me open the door and ran out and I locked the door behind us.

I rented the motor bike and Ken and I were off. He took me to this little juice spot on the side of the road next to a tattoo shop. The lady made fresh pressed juices. We were there sampling everything while she made Ken’s. I ended up buying 2 500L bottles. Ken bought 1 liter. I got an anti- inflammatory and digestive juice, clearing the pathways.

When we were all settled up with this lovely lady, I followed Ken to this bar called Black Cat Mini Mart. Apparently when it is open you walk through the refrigerator door into the bar. It was closed so I wasn’t able to actually check it out but it was a cool concept.

Ken decided we could go to the Nomad Cafe, which was literally right behind us. He was a member so we were able to eat there. It was really cool. It was open and spacious, they have private rooms you can rent out. Every seat had outlets for digital nomads to work. We sat outside in a little sofa space. Very cozy.

I loved it, Ken said that normally the place is packed and you can’t find a seat; but thanks to the corona the place was practically empty. Just a handful of digital nomads working on start ups or working with clients and then there was us… It was a hidden paradise for expats.

I met a guy from I think Bosnia, his name is Zlatan. We were exchanging numbers and I went to put it into my phone but my phone wasn’t working. I couldn’t figure out why but then they were telling me my Sim card probably finished. That put me in a pickle, I had to go to the ATM to get some money and I put my card on lock; I couldn’t take any money out yet because I didn’t have internet access. Gratefully I Ken was with me, he let me borrow 50k and I was able to get my phone in order. We then found an atm and it didn’t work. I decided I will just try again later.

It was so hot out with the sun beaming down so when we got back we jumped in the pool and cooled off. Clouds started rolling in but they never actually covered us, but we ended up getting sun showers. It was awesome, I let the pool and showers cool me off while still sitting in the sun.

When I went back to my room to change I saw the little kitty laying on my bench outside my room, so cute. Just lounging, relaxing like I have been. So I joined for a while.

The sun had gone down Ken and I started drinking by the pool again as it was still hot but night time. We drank what we had and Ken decided he needed a few more. Ken and I went out to the store to grab some munchies and he got some Smirnoff and I had my wine still.

The trip to the store was quite interesting indeed. The people that were out grocery shopping, everyone’s different languages. It was so entertaining. I had fun in there. We made it back and continued munching and drinking. Ken was in the pool and bats were flying all around and dipping into the water for a drink. Ken was in the pool freaking out, it was hilarious and they were so cool to watch their flight patterns.

He got out of the water and we hung out again on his porch and listened to music from around the world. Ken asked me where I wanted to go in the world; I chose a place and he had music from mostly any country on his playlist. It was so fun. We literally went to every continent. By the time I was finished with my beverages and he his, it was midnight. Way passed my bedtime. So away I went Ken was sad because he was not tired but I woke up hella early so I was sleepy.

Bali Day 19

Today I got up and jumped in the refreshing pool. Made some breakfast with what we had left and decided to go check out the beach and go grocery shopping.

We rode the motor bikes to the beach and it was hot. We parked and meandered down what would be like a “boardwalk” if you will. It was cool, mostly everything was closed but a few warungs and restaurants. Aric had come down here the day before on his walk and found this place that serves smoothie bowls.

We finished up there and continued for about another 10 mins or so. All the resorts and hotels had beach front properties and the pools were huge and empty. Everywhere was empty. A handful of people were lounging on the beach chairs under the shade but only in one little section.

The local shops that were open had women outside trying to get anyone to go and buy anything. I have been analyzing what I have and I am kind of getting bored with the same clothes, but I don’t need anything yet. If I am here longer than we will see, for now, I stick with what I have.

The beach there was interesting, as the waves brake what seemed like a mile out. So the shore was more like lake water. Not something I would jump into because of my phobia of lakes. Lol. It was weird to see the waves break so far away, all the boats were parked close to shore so when the tide is out, the boats are stuck till the tide comes back.

We eventually made it to the grocery store and Aric had invited Eka and Ayu over for dinner this evening. So we made sure we had enough rice and what not to make fried rice with egg and pork belly.

Fried rice with pork belly, bacon, egg, onion, corn, green peppers

We got back chilled out for a while and kicked it poolside. We bought extra beers and I still had a bottle of wine. Eka and Ayu came by as the sun went down and brought a guitar. I think Ayu left around 9 to go pick up her roommate from work and brought her back over. When they arrived they picked up the guitar and sang, it was awesome. They were so good.

We planned our next adventure, which was to go to Mount Batur for sunrise. which meant we needed to leave at 130am. We planned to do that not tomorrow but the next day, because we would have to go to bed by 5pm or 6pm; well, so I could wake up at midnight.

We played in the pool, played the guitar, and drank until it was time to go. They all left at midnight and we went to bed.

Love, Light and Healing

Bali Day 12

I was feeling so much better. I didn’t have as many cramps but I was bloated. I took some Acidil and left it alone. I was still kinda nervous about leaving. I ate some toast and avocado and more fruit.

I hung out mostly in the pool and in the common area. It was around 1pm when I started to get real hungry and again I wasn’t ready to leave yet so I tried to order off of gojek food, basically like uber eats. I was able to order food from the first night I was here, Nonii’s. I was happy about that. I may have waited up to an hour or so which I was fine because it didn’t require me to leave.

As it arrives I get so excited and open it up straight away. Delicious chicken satay and a salad. I don’t know why but I feel like the salads here are so much better then the US. I rarely eat salads in the US but on occasion I will. I found myself eating more salads here for sure. Maybe it has to do with the temperature and no pesticides.

As I enjoy my delicious meal, a new face pops in. His name is Arik and he is from Hawaii. He is also on his first big solo trip, so we immediately hit it off. We made plans for dinner and went our separate ways. I continued with the pool and the common area all day.

7pm came around we decided to walk to a café that Phillip had told us about. It was quite the walk but it’s so much better to walk with someone at night. Up until this point the only place I’ve walked around at night was in Ubud, at the Gio Vanda house. I felt comfortable walking around by myself there. Not so much anywhere else I’ve landed thus far, at night. I did go to Kuta for dinner but I had a gojek drop me off where I was meeting my friend. Then we walked together back to the main road.

The café we were going to closed about 10 mins prior so we kept walking. The street was so dark, thanks mom…for my flashlight (that thing has come in handy everywhere I’ve stayed so far. I am really appreciative for it). We were able to see the dogs lying on the street so we could avoid them just in case. Then we had to walk through a dirt road so we were able to see all the puddles. We finally make it back to the main street and find an Italian restaurant that was open. It was the first spot. We decided to do it. We sat down outside and relaxed.

My stomach had been doing great all day, I was stoked. I ordered a salad because it sounded so good again, after all it had been so hot all day it seemed so refreshing especially paired with watermelon juice. He ordered a pasta dish that he said was really good.

This was taken on our way back from dinner. Neverland, club that was closed due to covid-19. So many awesome graffiti artists around Bali. This just happened to be all in the same place.

We got up to leave and not even a minute after we began our walk back it started pouring. Not really sure how far away we were but we passed the grocery store that I had gone to the other day. Crossing the streets were challenging on the main roads. It was like frogger trying to cross, but we made it unscathed. By the time we got back everything I was wearing was soaked. We stayed up for about 30 mins and went our separate ways once again; and to bed I went.

Bali Day 9

I woke up and rolled out of bed. I was planning on hanging out till noon at the hotel before check out but I ended up getting a bug, as in lets go. I emailed my new place of stay in Canggu and asked if I can check in sooner. They said absolutely.

I realized my back was out of alignment and was hurting, you know the one, lower back stiff can’t bend. Yep that one. I said to self nope, we are not babying you we are going to stretch and keep moving. The reason it was hurting is a couple of different reasons. 1. due to eating leftovers, causing an undesirable outcome. 2. from the spiritual aspect of no security. I am in a beautiful place and moving one day at a time and living in the complete unknown. So my body is reacting. My body loves to be stable, however we are in times where stability is only in your faith.

I jump in the pool to help my body stretch out, got out and went for my last breakfast there. It was a breakfast buffet of deliciousness. Of course it doesn’t come near the Wavi Treehouse but I can not compare that place with anything.

I get back to the room and hang out for a while, making sure everything is packed, I talk to my dad for some time and decide it’s time. I contact Gojek and make my way out.

The drive to Canggu was a lot shorter than I anticipated and the driver said because no one is here. I disagreed as I saw many motor bikes on the streets. We laughed. We found the address and my driver was unable to make it down the tiny road. So we grabbed my belongings and walked the rest of the way.

The Umah Bamboo Canggu is tucked away on this little property with 9 little huts. Equipped with a bed on the bamboo floor, 1 cabinet, and the bathroom. Everything is so low to the ground here and with my back feeling the way it does…geez. Cute villa, smells like bamboo because the entire place is made from bamboo.

I put all my stuff away and saw 2 guys at the kitchen and 2 girls at the pool. The girls spoke another language and the guys both spoke English. Grateful I was able to communicate with someone. lol. We introduced one another and talked about our current situation. Everyone who is a foreigner is in the same boat. It feels so good that there is quite a lot of us.

I got here around 930am. by the time I finished laundry and jumped in the pool it was 11. I remember looking at my phone and being like holy cow its so early still. So i needed a game plan. I need to get out and explore. But I need a shower first. By the time I came out and was getting ready to go, everyone was gone except a couple from the Czech Republic. They were so nice and helped me figure out how to get a gojek here, because the address is quirky on the the app.

I finally get one to find me with the help from my new friends and I was off to the beach, Batu Bolong. The trip was 8rph, not bad for what would have been a 45 min walk amd getting lost, lol. I left probably around 1pm.

I walk straight to the beach. There is several beach bars and hundreds of surfers. I just sat down on the sand and watched for sometime. As I sat there I started to get hungry so I got up and brushed myself off and made my way down the street reading everyone’s menu. I remembered to contact dude from Ubud, who said he would be in Canggu. Dude’s name is Jason. So I hit him up and we decided to meet for sunset on the beach, happy hour at 530ish.

I walked around till then looking for some grub. I found this little spot called Nonii’s. I sat there and enjoyed my food with my coconut. Totally need to stay hydrated around here, you sweat everything out. I can’t even imagine July and August, peak season. If I had to take a guess I would say it’s probably like Texas.

It was about 515pm by the time I was done which was perfect timing. Headed back to the beach and waited for my friend on the beach. He arrived and we went to the Wave, bar\restaurant and had a magnificent view of the surfers and sunset. His friend V came to meet us. She is from Australia originally but has traveled and worked in many other countries since. Now residing in Bali she teaches singing lessons via online.

We hung out there for a couple of cocktails and made our way to the Old Man. Another bar that gets wild after 11pm. Mind you it’s friday here. I was ready to go home and knock out as I haven’t been out this late in so long and have been out literally all day. They looked at me and said, I know you are tired but I think you should come out. Being that I’m in for new experiences, I said yes. I have no reason whatsoever to go home besides go to sleep. I can sleep tomorrow!

Cold Coconut Water

We hopped on the motor bikes and went to the Faraway bar, not sure where it is but I was there. Live music and lots of fun people. I just had water and coconuts. The coconuts were cold which I was stoked about. I have not, since I’ve been here had a cold coconut! So refreshing. This English guy comes up to me and asks me why American women wear sunglasses at night on their head. I laughed and replied back stating that I have been out all day, since 1 this afternoon. And by that time it was 1030pm.

Jason gave me a ride back to the villas around 1130pm. So grateful as I was so tired.

Bali Day 8

Today was relaxing, I woke up at 5am and jumped in the pool. It was quiet and if anyone was here, they were all sleeping. I sat poolside and watched the sun rise. Today was the day to plan out my trip. Kinda stressful, so I limited it to just the next place I was going to. I figured only plan one stay at a time. I had assistance from my sister, much appreciation for her help.

I received a text from my new friend about an earthquake that happened at 130am. She asked if I felt it, I was out cold. Apparently it woke her up. It was a 6.3 or 6.8 or something but for a tsunami it has to be 7. higher. I thought to myself wow Mother Earth is taking care of business…

Anyways, I found a place in Canggu which is about 35 mins from Kuta. A place called Umah Bamboo Canggu. It was cheap, $14 a night on Airbnb and it’s off the main road. So I booked for 4 days. I will now be here for Silent Day which is a holy day for Indonesia. Rai suggested I stay in a hotel for that so that I don’t have to be stuck in my room. That starts at 6am on the 25th and ends at 6am on the 26th. So I will eventually look into that.

After booking my place of stay in Canggu, I decided to write my blog. Internet was not on my side all morning. It took me several hours just to book my stay. So then I tried to blog and it wasn’t working. So I decided to just relax and let it go till I get to Canggu. I jumped in the pool another time and decided it was time to go for a walk.

I left the hotel not really knowing anything about the area, I just wanted to go by foot and see what was around. Where i was, not much, but I did find a guy selling fresh juice. I bought a watermelon juice, so good and so hydrating. So I went back to the hotel and asked where the grocery store was. Apparently I was right where the grocery store was just a few meters down. So I went to my room and grabbed my backpack and back out I went.

It was HOT, walking in my flip flops, I felt my flip flops melting into my skin. I just wanted to be barefoot! But you don’t do that in the city…gross. I get there and there was a gentleman standing there pouring hand sanitizer in everyone’s hands that were coming in. I walked in and looked for all my favorite fruits and then I found a bottle of Rose called Hatten made here in Bali. So I decided to to buy that too.

As I began my adventure back to the hotel I found the mall. I wanted to see what a mall looks like in Bali. So I walked up the stairs and went to enter. This woman comes to me with a thermometer and takes my temperature. She says I was good and then gave me some hand sanitizer. I continued to meander and the first store was Adidas, I turned the corner and there was sketchers. My oh my, then they had a few little shops in there and a food court and a movie theater. I came and I saw so I left.

As I was heading back I saw the chef from the hotel, we walked back to the hotel together and talked about the lack of tourists. I told him, that’s why we all need to stay, the ones that are here, need to stay. We laughed and went our separate ways.

I went to my room and changed back into swimming clothes and jumped back in the pool. It felt amazing as it was so hot. I sat poolside for sometime and then decided to attempt to plan my trip as if I didn’t have to leave, because quite honestly, you never know.

It started to get dark and my new friends from Jakarta sat at the table beside me. I stopped planning and joined them for the remainder of the evening. We laughed and shared pictures and exchanged FB and Insta info. I made my way once again to bed. I was exhausted from relaxing! hahaha…It was really the energy overload.

Grateful again to crawl into a cozy cool bed.
