Bali Day 14

I slept in till 730 today and it was amazing! Today is Npeyi Day. No internet and no tv (not that I’ve used one since I’ve been here). I started with breakfast, fried eggs with watermelon juice and toast. It was so hot by 830 that I jumped in the pool and hung poolside for some time. I went above my room and meditated on my situation and wrote another letter about it. The minute I put the pen down, I looked over and there was a feather sticking right out of the ground. Anyone who is in the know, understands that feathers represents angels, when one crosses your path, know they are with you. That was what I needed to see in that very moment. It was perfect.

When a feather crosses your path, know that the angels are with you

I then decided it was time to play catch up with my posts. So I started doing that and then I would take pool breaks in between because it was so hot. By the time noon came around I was hungry so I made myself some noodles and toast, I peeled a cucumber and ate a banana. I was full and happy. I took everything up to the restaurant and washed everything there. I jumped in the pool and then went back to writing.

As I was sitting there, a young man, Dicky, came up and we started talking. He lives here in Bali. His club that he worked at in Denpasar just closed so he is just passing through with a friend. He was living in Jakarta and couldn’t find work because the big companies there don’t hire their own people. The big companies are owned by Chinese and they don’t use people that live in the city. It is so sad. He left because he couldn’t find work and he got into drugs there. So he came here and he has been clean ever since and had a job. His parents live here, and he helps them with their business. Which is cooking, selling food. It seems most families do that as a team. I love that. He is a drummer and loves Wu-Tang and Rancid and many more bands. He is currently working on his first hip hop project, he is in the middle of writing lyrics. He just finished university for tourism and is working on getting his passport so he can go to America and work on a cruise ship in Miami. He is very excited about it. I am super stoked for him too. I told him, don’t spend your money there…save it and bring it home. You can build your restaurant or hotel easily. That’s what he wants to do, and he wants to help his friends out by giving them all jobs in Jakarta. He is also learning how to surf. Super nice, cool cat.

We talked for like an hour and next thing you know it’s 4pm. Dinner time. The kitchen closes at 5 today and this meal was on the house, although I didn’t know it. I ordered the chicken cordon blu. I was slightly skeptical, but I didn’t need to be. It was so good.

I went to go shower and wash my hair; I couldn’t run my fingers through it anymore. The water pressure is so horrible there was no way it was gonna do the trick. I through in some shampoo and said ok all done. Not even gonna bother with conditioner at this time. I sat back down in front of the computer and continued on. I had forgotten that it was a new moon, and no light pollution so when it out dark I wanted to go above my room on the terrace and look at the stars. I invited the London Ladies too.

I went up there and brought my camera. It was so beautiful. Saw some things shoot across the sky and remembered how to take night shots. The only problem is that I need a powerful light to get focus on something. But I did what I could, and I was just so excited to figure it out again.

I stopped taking pictures so I could just enjoy what was before me. I even saw a lot of fireflies which I rarely see anymore in the US. It is truly a fairyland here. Nothing but amazing. Everything is beautiful and right where it’s supposed to be, including me. To see everything with my own eyes, absolutely stunning. No words could truly describe anything I feel or see and for that I am truly blessed.

As I was getting up to go back downstairs, I coughed loudly and a bat was in the tree across from me and I must’ve scared it and it made some noises and flew away. It startled me too. My heart was pounding but then I started laughing and made my way to my room and went to sleepies.

Bali Day 13

Today I was leaving the bamboo villas. I was happy to do so, yet sad to leave my new friends. A bittersweet event. I was excited to go to a comfortable hotel where I can sit and relax comfortably, go to the bathroom with no one around (hahaha) and sprawl out. I was headed back to Ubud. I booked it the night before and was hesitant on the area, but I wanted to be comfortable with Silent Day.

“Silent Day, known as Nyepi, is a Balinese “Day of Silence” that is commemorated every Isakawarsa according to the Balinese calendar. It is a Hindu celebration mainly celebrated in Bali, Indonesia. Nyepi, a public holiday in Indonesia, is a day of silence, fasting and meditation for the Balinese.” ~Wikipedia

They turn off the internet throughout the country, no one is allowed to leave their homes and no cooking, no lights. Its actually quite fascinating. Hotels and resorts are able to keep their electricity and people are allowed to use the pool and we also have AC. No tv and no internet. Which was fine by me.

I pack up my belongings and get ready to leave. Arik had reserved a spot somewhere that I cannot remember and he booked it for 5 days. He was supposed to stay at the villas for several days but we both agreed on comfortability. So he was leaving as well. We hiked back up to the main road and both got gojeks. His arrived first and off he went. I waited till I got up there to order mine.

When I looked at the price it said 104k. So I ordered. The day before it was 115k. I would have called Rai but just to transfer locations it made sense to just get a gojek. So I ordered. The person who accepted, texted me and asked to make the price go higher. I told him 115k, in which he replied 200k. My first thought was no, but then I said whatever just get out of here. So I agreed. I then realized he was not moving so I cancelled and rebooked. This time I got this nice old man who just came to pick me up and we were off. He didn’t speak much English and I haven’t learned much Balinese so we just drove, I did ask him if it was ok to sit in front seat; he obliged. I just like to see everything and take it all in.

The drive was beautiful, every road looks like we are on back roads. Then we come to major intersections and everyone is just everywhere and trying to go somewhere. They are pros, that is why I am a passenger at this time and I will leave it at that.

We made it to Ubud and I was starving. We pulled up to the hotel on this tiny road and I think I ended up giving him117k, I was going to give him 150k but I couldn’t find it in my wallet and 117 is a great number.

I was welcomed with a fresh lemonade and a lime. Checking in was a breeze. I remembered that they had a restaurant and was so happy to eat something after I dropped everything off. Sylvia walked to my room and I marveled in the space. So open and fresh, spacious and quiet. The bathroom is bigger than Madonna’s first apt in NYC. A/C a big bed I had a kitchen and the pool right outside my door. I even have a little couch with a soft cushion to sit on. I love it.

I threw everything in the room and went to check out the food. I order spring rolls and a salad as it just turned noon. They were both fabulous, I read on the reviews to try the pineapple pancake. So maybe I will do that. I met a lady who was checking out but having a bite before she left. Nice lady, she enjoyed her stay and was heading to a friends house; they were going to go swimming with the dolphins.

I go back to my room and change right into my bathing suit and join these 2 ladies in the pool. The ladies are from London. They came here on holiday and heading back to London on the 26th. One works for emergency child services and the other is an artist, much like me. We create.

I went back to my room and requested refunds for my flights from Air Asia and my also my Cambodian Visa. That took some time and realized, everything is going to be closed for the next 2 days, I’d better get to the grocery store. The hotel offers a free ride into town but you need to find your way back. So I asked for a ride and we only went as far as the main road. I said no the grocery store, he said this is as far as he can go. I said ok and got off and began to walk. Basically going to the grocery store that was down the street from the Gio Vanda House, where I stayed last time I was here. From where I was, that was far. Google maps said a 30 minute walk, but I beg to differ only because it was hot and there were hills.

I finally made it there and wow the streets were quiet, compared to the last time I was here. I thought to myself now I could ride a motorbike, way less people. I walk in to the store and it was busy. I went in for bug spray, fruit, and noodles. I ended up also getting bread, a pastry, honey and ginger. I paid just under 8 bux for everything and I got quite a bit. It filled up my backpack. You can’t walk out of a US grocery store without paying 7 bux just for honey, ok maybe honey and a 1/3 watermelon.

I begin my trek back, I decided instead of getting a ride I would walk all the way back and see everything. As I made my way I thought, why not some wine. So I stopped and bought a bottle of Bali made rose. I got off the main road and this is the road that seemed challenging. I walked about 7 mins or so and came across fruit stand. I stopped and realized I wanted dragon fruit. So I bought 3 and somehow fit it into my bag. Off I went again. I found my road and marched my happy ass back to the hotel.

I was so hot from the walk. I made sure to go before the sun would go down so that I can walk safely back. I had given my laundry to the ladies so all I had were my workout leggings that were black and thick. I got back and changed back into my bathing suit and right back in the water.

The pool was actually quite cold but it was so hot out that it was refreshing and you were fine after being in it for a few minutes. The pool at the bamboo villas was like taking a bath. It was so hot. The only reason you get in is so that when you get out you are nice and cool.

I worked myself up such an appetite that I went back to the restaurant to have dinner. I know you are probably thinking, you just went to the grocery store. But here’s the thing, I didn’t want to use the kitchen to cook anything at night. 1 reason is the bugs; 2 well I was looking for anything to wash the dishes with and there was nothing; 3 there could potentially be an ant situation which is not cool. So I went and had dinner and ordered the chicken satay and the spring rolls again. Yummm.

I had jumped back in the pool and started questioning everything. With everything going on, it’s been a battle of mind and heart. So, I wrote a facebook post…not really for everyone else but for me. I needed to write it out. I also realized it was a new moon so I sat and wrote out things that I am manifesting into my life. And I sat with it for some time.

After my brain being fried over what I feel in my soul and what society is telling me to do I was tired. I had a glass of wine and went to bed.

Bali Day 8

Today was relaxing, I woke up at 5am and jumped in the pool. It was quiet and if anyone was here, they were all sleeping. I sat poolside and watched the sun rise. Today was the day to plan out my trip. Kinda stressful, so I limited it to just the next place I was going to. I figured only plan one stay at a time. I had assistance from my sister, much appreciation for her help.

I received a text from my new friend about an earthquake that happened at 130am. She asked if I felt it, I was out cold. Apparently it woke her up. It was a 6.3 or 6.8 or something but for a tsunami it has to be 7. higher. I thought to myself wow Mother Earth is taking care of business…

Anyways, I found a place in Canggu which is about 35 mins from Kuta. A place called Umah Bamboo Canggu. It was cheap, $14 a night on Airbnb and it’s off the main road. So I booked for 4 days. I will now be here for Silent Day which is a holy day for Indonesia. Rai suggested I stay in a hotel for that so that I don’t have to be stuck in my room. That starts at 6am on the 25th and ends at 6am on the 26th. So I will eventually look into that.

After booking my place of stay in Canggu, I decided to write my blog. Internet was not on my side all morning. It took me several hours just to book my stay. So then I tried to blog and it wasn’t working. So I decided to just relax and let it go till I get to Canggu. I jumped in the pool another time and decided it was time to go for a walk.

I left the hotel not really knowing anything about the area, I just wanted to go by foot and see what was around. Where i was, not much, but I did find a guy selling fresh juice. I bought a watermelon juice, so good and so hydrating. So I went back to the hotel and asked where the grocery store was. Apparently I was right where the grocery store was just a few meters down. So I went to my room and grabbed my backpack and back out I went.

It was HOT, walking in my flip flops, I felt my flip flops melting into my skin. I just wanted to be barefoot! But you don’t do that in the city…gross. I get there and there was a gentleman standing there pouring hand sanitizer in everyone’s hands that were coming in. I walked in and looked for all my favorite fruits and then I found a bottle of Rose called Hatten made here in Bali. So I decided to to buy that too.

As I began my adventure back to the hotel I found the mall. I wanted to see what a mall looks like in Bali. So I walked up the stairs and went to enter. This woman comes to me with a thermometer and takes my temperature. She says I was good and then gave me some hand sanitizer. I continued to meander and the first store was Adidas, I turned the corner and there was sketchers. My oh my, then they had a few little shops in there and a food court and a movie theater. I came and I saw so I left.

As I was heading back I saw the chef from the hotel, we walked back to the hotel together and talked about the lack of tourists. I told him, that’s why we all need to stay, the ones that are here, need to stay. We laughed and went our separate ways.

I went to my room and changed back into swimming clothes and jumped back in the pool. It felt amazing as it was so hot. I sat poolside for sometime and then decided to attempt to plan my trip as if I didn’t have to leave, because quite honestly, you never know.

It started to get dark and my new friends from Jakarta sat at the table beside me. I stopped planning and joined them for the remainder of the evening. We laughed and shared pictures and exchanged FB and Insta info. I made my way once again to bed. I was exhausted from relaxing! hahaha…It was really the energy overload.

Grateful again to crawl into a cozy cool bed.

Algonquin Resort, New Brunswick Canada

Day 2 of travels…

We eventually arrived, still daylight gratefully, at the Algonquin Hotel. It resembled the hotel in the shining. Later we find out that this hotel is haunted and and we can have a tour with the manager once he’s off his shift at 11 pm. Super excited, Krysta and I trek everything into our non haunted room and get ready to have dinner all the while listening to music and dancing. We head down for dinner, itwas good, margarita not so much and not much for desserts on the menu so we decide to go and jump in the jacuzzi. Ahhh, after a long ride, a glass of wine and spa are so in order especially if we are going to take a tour of the haunted hotel in just an hour at this point.

We were both in heaven, the room was beautiful, huge and with a kitchenette. So yes, anyone who knows me, I had a fridge to put all my rockstars in! haha. We head on down to the desk to meet Josh, the super amazing, knowledgeable manager and wait for him at the bar.

He finds his way to us and we begin our tour. It began on the fourth floor, a room 473, the crying bride. Story goes that she waited for her husband to be but never came and they were to be staying in 473 and she supposedly jumped out the window and now below the window is a flower bed.

When we arrived outside of the room we knocked on the door to let her know we were going to enter. We opened the door and turned on the lights. In this hotel if the closet door is shut the lights are off and when you open them the lights turn on. When we looked around the corner at the bathroom and the closet, the closet light was on. To me, felt like she was comfortable with us in there but wanted to stay private and she let us know with the light being on that, that is where she is. The first thing I noticed when we walked in besides the closet light being on, was a beetle on the wall. This hotel was very clean and there had been zero bugs anywhere in the building at all.

Josh explained that she has doesn’t care too much for many men, so I politely asked Josh to step outside while I take some pictures in the dark to see if I can capture anything. He kindly leaves us to our own devices and I took some pictures. At first I would click to take a picture and it wouldn’t allow us to take any for the first 3 or so. And then I was able to take a few.

After closely looking through them, we were unable to see anything in the room through my images that I took. I didn’t have any expectations but it would have been cool to have seen something. Regardless, if you feel energy, you will know someone is in there.

We moved on through the fourth floor down a hallway that was super narrow, much like in the shining. If my friend Crystal reads this, it’s like her hallway into her bedroom. skinny minnie. It was as if I was looking down into the twilight zone, waiting for two girls to come around the corner.

We meander to the basement that was built in the late 1800’s. It was said to have burned down and then rebuilt. We turned the lights off and walked with a flashlight down the old basement corridor with pipes hanging out everywhere.

Josh explained to us about a little boy that follows him around and he is sometimes found in the basement where we now stood. The lights were off and I asked permission once again to take pictures in the dark. So I did.

He continued on about all the stories he uncovered while doing research and from what other people have told him and what he has witnessed. Pretty amazing, including a bellhop in a tan suit who will take your bags to your room and leave you without trace. There is a picture near the ballroom where you can see the young boy that stays within the hotel. Really cool history here.

At the end of our midnight adventure Krysta and I were ready for bed, after a long day. We headed back to the room. I went outside before going up to the room to enjoy the crisp air. As I meandered to the doors to go back in I notice a herd of deer. Such a perfect ending of such a beautiful day!

The next day we got up and checked out all the pictures and we found some very interesting imagery from the basement. we found faces in the walls and lights unattached to anything, orbs if you will. The orbs however have to be super zoomed in to see, very interesting.
